In February 2009, President Barack Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. WSDOT now stands ready to translate the federal recovery funding into job creation and highway improvements.
Why is WSDOT
paving this portion of the highway?
This busy section of SR 17 has experienced a steady increase in heavy truck and commuter traffic due to the business growth at both the Port of Ephrata and the Port of Moses Lake. Resurfacing the highway with Hot Mix Asphalt increases its weight carrying capacity in addition to providing a smoother and safer ride.
The End Result
Drivers will have a safer, smoother driving surface and the strenghtened roadway will last longer and carry heavier loads.

What is the project timeline?
Construction began June 8 and is scheduled to be complete within 95 working days.
Financial Information
This project was advertised for private contractor bids on March 23rd, 2009. Three bids were opened on April 23rd. Contract #7724 was awarded to Granite Northwest, Inc. for $6,235,235.00, 22% below the engineering estimate.
Funding for this project within the contract comes from the following source:
• 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA): $6.29 million
