This P-1, Roadway Preservation project replaces the asphalt driving lanes on I-90 for 10 miles from the Vantage Bridge to a mile west of George.  The asphalt  is also being replaced for the Silica Road Interchange (Exit 143), the Wanapum Scenic View Area (Exit 139 Eastbound), and Echo Scenic View Area (Exit 139 Westbound).  Four miles of badly deteriorated asphalt shoulders are being replaced just west of George.  This project also includes fog sealing of the driving lanes for the SR 26 interchange (Exit 137) at the east end of the Vantage Bridge.

Why is WSDOT replacing the asphalt on I-90?
The eastbound left lane and both westbound lanes are showing signs of distress.  Cracks and potholes are forming in the driving lanes and some of the shoulders.  We'll grind off the top layer of asphalt and repave it.

The End Result
Repaving preserves the underlying asphalt layers and helps prevent more serious damage to the roadway.

What is the project timeline?
The project will be advertised for private contract bids during the Fall of 2013 with construction beginning Spring/Summer of 2014 and construction completed by Fall of 2014.
