April 2013
- Weekly construction update
- Awarded to Acme Concrete Paving of Spokane with a construction bid of $7,849,447.
- Pavement repair and grinding complete. Striping and other minor items remain. Work suspended for winter.
This project will replace deteriorated concrete pavement panels, grind concrete pavement to eliminate ruts, bridge deck repairs on the Abbot Rd. and Latah Creek Bridges, and upgrades to illumination systems, guardrail, and signing. The project limits are shown on the drawing above.
Why is WSDOT
rehabilitating this pavement?
This section of Interstate 90, west of downtown Spokane, has experienced severe surface rutting from vehicles using studded winter snow tires. The worst rutting was evident on the Latah Creek Bridge. In addition, a number of the concrete pavement panels have cracked and needed to be replaced.
The End Result
Tire track ruts will be eliminated and the driving surface will be smooth, provided a better ride and safer roadway.
Project Benefits
The life of the existing concrete pavement on the Sunset Hill portion will be extended, preserving the investment in the roadway
What is the project timeline?
Grinding and joint repair is complete. After a winter suspension, some minor items, including permanent striping, will resume in the spring of 2013 until completed.
Financial Information
Project signage will reflect the cost of construction engineering, project bid award and sales tax.
