I-5 - North Everett to SR 528 - ITS and Paving - Complete December 2011


We repaved a four-mile stretch of southbound I-5 between the Snohomish River bridge and Ebey Slough bridge in Everett, upgrading striping and guardrail, and improving drainage on the Ebey Slough bridge. Additionally, we installed Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) improvements along five miles of I-5. We installed six new traffic cameras and updated signs and overhead sign illumination along I-5 and part of SR 529.

Project timeline:

  • February 2008: Began project design
  • March 7, 2011: Advertise project for competitive bidding
  • April 19, 2011: Awarded project to Elcon Corp. (Everett) for $3.2 million
  • Spring/Summer 2011: Began construction
  • Winter 2011: Completed construction

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
Improved drainage on the Ebey Slough bridge will reduce standing water in the lanes and improve safety for drivers.

New reflective lane markings will improve visibility for drivers, especially during adverse weather.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
New cameras and traffic data loops will provide real-time traffic and incident information to the Seattle Traffic map.

ITS investments will help WSDOT manage congestion and collisions to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
