Overview
WSDOT is partnering with the city of Bellevue to build a new freeway bridge at NE 10th Street in Bellevue. The NE 10th Street Bridge will be built in two stages. The city of Bellevue will construct the first stage. WSDOT will construct the bridge over I-405 in the second stage.
Why is WSDOT
constructing this new bridge?
The NE 10th Street bridge will provide improved access in the north end of downtown Bellevue, and will relieve congestion at the NE Eighth Street interchange.
The End Result
This project will allow motorists to travel directly across I-405 on NE 10th, instead of traveling to NE Eighth Street. The project will also provide improved emergency access to the medical district.
Project Benefits
- Safety. Provides drivers and pedestrians a safe, new crossing of I-405, and decreases congestion-related collisions at other crossings of I-405 in Bellevue.
- Congestion Relief. Reduces congestion on NE Eighth Street by spreading traffic to a new I-405 crossing.
- Mobility. Improves access to north downtown Bellevue and to the medical district.
- Environment. Builds a new stormwater wetland site to avoid and minimize impacts to the environment.
What is the project timeline?
- 2006: City of Bellevue began construction on Stage 1 of the project.
- Spring 2008: City of Bellevue completed stage 1.
- Winter 2008: WSDOT started construction on Stage 2 with the demolition of the Paragon Hotel.
- Fall 2009: The NE 10th Street Bridge will be open to traffic.
