Overview

This project was completed in September 2013

We replaced an old, clogged roadway runoff (stormwater) pipe under the northbound SR 167 ramp to northbound I-405 in Renton.

The old pipe was made of corrugated metal, which had been in place for nearly 30 years, and was falling apart. Water was seeping under the roadway causing material to settle. The pipe reached the end of its useful life and was replaced it to preserve the roadway above.

The new pipe is made of heavy duty rubberized plastic. Crews installed it beneath the shoulder of the ramp.  Doing so gives crews easier access for future cleaning and maintenance work.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
The new pipe prevents water from leaking beneath the roadway. Leaks cause material below the roadway to settle. Settling causes cracking in the roadway above, which is a hazard to drivers.
Leaf Glyph Protects Environment
The new pipe allows for better drainage of stormwater from the roadway.
Dollar Sign Glyph Economic Incentive
The new pipe reduces annual maintenance costs, saving tax payer dollars.
