We replaced or repaired the concrete panels on all four lanes of northbound I-405 from Southeast 8th Street to just north of Main Street in Bellevue. As part of the same contract, construction crews also improved the pavement on SR 518 near Sea-Tac Airport.
The concrete in this section of the interstate was 40-50 years old and showing its age with cracks, bumps and ruts. Pouring new concrete panels or repairing and grinding existing concrete panels creates a smoother drive with better traction and new high visibility striping.
| Economic Incentive
This work extends the life of the interstate and reduces the likelihood of emergency lane closures for costly pavement repairs. It also frees up maintenance crews to perform other work.
Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked closely with the city of Bellevue to ensure traffic signals on city streets were coordinated to keep traffic flowing during two weekend closures of northbound I-405.
WSDOT and the city also worked together to ensure drivers and area residents were aware of the roadwork and alternate travel routes.
