SR 9 - 108th Street NE (Lauck Road) - Complete January 2008

Project Facts
  • We will construct a southbound right-turn lane.
  • We will construct both northbound and southbound left-turn lanes.
  • This project is one of several projects planned for the SR 9 corridor.

Project Status

June 2008

• Crews opened a new and improved intersection at SR 9/Lauck Road/108th Street with temporary striping while the asphalt cures.

• The asphalt is ready for the permanent striping.  However, we need to schedule the busy striping crews to place permanent striping during dry weather.

• Drivers can learn more about a recent SR 9 Safety Study (pdf 1mb).

Overview
WSDOT will build right and left-turn lanes at the intersection of State Route 9 and 108th Street NE (Lauck Road), north of Marysville.

Why is WSDOT improving this intersection?
Traffic volume along State Route 9 (SR 9) has increased significantly over the last ten years.  Traffic stopping to turn onto 108th greatly increases the risk of collisions and disrupts traffic flow. The planned improvements will provide left- and right-turning vehicles with their own lane.

The End Result
New northbound and southbound left-turn lanes, a southbound right-turn lane, and improved lighting and signing will increase safety and reduce congestion for drivers.

Project Benefits
Safety: New turn lanes on SR 9 will help decrease rear-end and sideswipe collisions by giving left- and right-turning motorists their own lane in which to wait to make their turn. Lighting will improve visibility at the intersection.

Traffic flow: Separating left- and right-turning motorists from through-traffic will help relieve congestion.

What is the project timeline?

June 2007 - We started construction

Winter 2007 - We plan to complete construction

Public Involvement
Your thoughts and opinions are important to us. Feel free to contact Marlin Lenssen's construction office at (425) 225-8796 or e-mail FahninJ@wsdot.wa.gov with any questions, comments or concerns.

Environmental Protection
In our continuing efforts to protect the environment, the WSDOT team will work with surrounding cities and communities to protect, and in some cases better, wetlands and streams in the area.
Please visit the WSDOT Environmental Services Web site for more information.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
Left-turn and right-turn lanes significantly decrease rear-end collisions and reduce frustration for all motorists using the roadway. Better lighting at this busy intersection will also improve safety.

Will this project impact tribal resources?

Tribes with an interest in or land near this current construction project will be notified during the environmental documentation phase of each project.

To learn more about Section 106 Tribal Consultation (also called government-to-government tribal consultation process) please visit WSDOT's Tribal Liaison page, where you'll find the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan and WSDOT's Tribal Consultation Policy (Adopted by the Transportation Commission on February 19, 2003).
