July 2008
- The environmental and design phase have been completed. This project was advertised for construction in February 2008.
- Coral Construction Company of Wilsonville, Oregon was selected in April 2008 as the contractor for this project.
- Construction began in May 2008.
Overview
This project will make safety improvements to various locations throughout the State Route 7 Corridor from US Highway 12 to the Lewis/ Pierce county line. Safety improvements will reduce the severity of accidents where motorists have driven off the roadway.
Why is WSDOT
making safety improvements to this corridor?
In a recent statewide analysis of accidents, one of the major areas of concern was the number of accidents in rural areas where motorists had driven off the roadway. In the 2005 legislative session, funding was allocated to make safety improvements to this corridor, which would reduce the severity of accidents where motorists have driven off the highway.
The End Result
This project will improve safety in the SR 7 corridor, between US Highway 12 and the Lewis/ Pierce County line.
Project Benefits
- Safety: This project will improve safety by reducing the severity of accidents where motorists have driven off the roadway.
What is the project timeline?
- Spring 2006: Design and environmental process began.
- May 2008: Construction began.
- Summer 2009: Estimated completion of construction.
Public Involvement
Your thoughts and opinions are important to us. During the development of the SR 7 Route Development Plan, WSDOT hosted four stakeholder committee meetings and three public meetings, between May and October of 2005. WSDOT will continue to inform the public of any future public involvement through this Web page, the SW Region's Public Involvement page, and through the local media.
Environmental Protection
The necessary environmental analysis for this project is underway. This analysis will document the project’s environmental impacts (natural, ecological, societal and economic) in order to guide the final design and construction. This project will provide mitigation for impacts to the environment, with stormwater treatment being the primary mitigation expected.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
This project will improve safety by reducing the severity of accidents where motorists have driven off the roadway.
Will this project impact tribal resources?
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
This process is not applicable because the project does not impact tribal lands.
