SR 14 - Lieser Road Interchange Ramp Signalization

Project Facts
  • Increasing traffic volumes at the SR 14 ramp intersections at Lieser Road have created congestion and safety issues.
  • This project will improve the SR 14 ramp intersections at Lieser Road by installing a new traffic signal on the westbound off-ramp.
  • Construction will begin in 2008.

Project Status

September 2008

  • This project is currently under construction, with completion scheduled for August 2008.
  • A maximum of three weekday overnight closures of the westbound off-ramp will be scheduled in order to pave and install loop detectors. To learn about scheduled traffic impacts related to this project, please visit our Weekly Travel Advisory Web page.

Overview
This project will make improvements to the State Route 14 ramp at Lieser Road. These improvements will help reduce congestion and improve safety in the vicinity of the interchange. A signal will be installed at the westbound off-ramp with Lieser Road.

Why is WSDOT making improvements to this intersection?
Increasing traffic volumes at the SR 14 ramp intersections at Lieser Road have created congestion and safety issues.

Traffic volumes at the interchange have been increasing with the rising development in the area. The area has become congested and future models indicate increased safety problems for motorists using the interchange.

The End Result
This project will improve the SR 14 ramp westbound ramp intersection at Lieser Road by installing a new traffic signal, which will reduce congestion and improve safety.

Project Benefits

  • Safety: This project will improve safety on the SR 14 on and off-ramps, by adding a new signal at the westbound off-ramp.
  • Congestion Relief: Adding a signal where the SR 14 westbound ramp meets Lieser will improve safety at the interchange, where traffic currently backs up during peak hours, and provide improved traffic flow on Lieser Road.

What is the project timeline?

  • Summer 2006: Design and environmental process began.
  • June 2008: Construction began.
  • August 2008: Estimated completion of construction.

Public Involvement
Your thoughts and opinions are important to us. WSDOT will continue to inform the public of any future public involvement through this Web page, the SW Region's Public Involvement page, and through the local media.

Environmental Protection
WSDOT makes every effort to assess and minimize negative impacts from highway improvement projects. The necessary environmental analysis for this project has not yet been conducted. This analysis will document the project’s environmental impacts (natural, ecological, societal and economic) in order to guide final design and construction. This project will provide mitigation for impacts to the environment.

For environmental information specific to this project, please contact Erin Gardner at (360) 905-2185, or e-mail GARDNEE@wsdot.wa.gov.

Please visit the WSDOT Environmental Services Web site for more information.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
This project will reduce congestion and improve safety by making improvements to the westbound SR 14 ramp intersection at Lieser Road. Improved mobility and decreased congestion contributes to safer roads, appropriate travel speeds and reduced accident rates.

Will this project impact tribal resources?
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
