Growth in Licensed Drivers

The number of licensed drivers in Washington increased from 2.66 million in 1980 to 4.88 million in 2007, an overall increase of 83%, or an annual average increase of 2.26%.  In 2007, 75% of the population held a valid driver's license, an increase from 65% in 1980. This upward trend is expected to continue, increasing the number of licensed drivers to more than six million by 2030.
