Commute Trends

Many people in Washington State are changing the way they get to work.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the statewide drive-alone rate has decreased from 73.9 percent in 1990 to 73.3 percent in 2000. This trend is especially true in the eight counties originally targeted for commute trip reduction where drive-alone employees have declined from 69.3 percent in 1993 to 62.8 percent in 2003.
