Striping season lasts from April 16 until October 31. Crews will re-stripe more than 4,500 miles on dozens of highways around the Puget Sound area between the King/Pierce county line and the
U.S./Canadian border. View the monthly striping schedule. 

  • Thursday, August 28 - Crews will be striping the yellow edge lines of both directions of I-90 between Jones Road in Preston and SE 436th Avenue in North Bend. This work is weather-dependent.

US 2

Crews will repave three miles of US 2 between Forest Service Road and Money Creek as well as install centerline rumble strips and guardrail.

  • Wednesday, September 3 - Thursday, September 4 - Crews will close one eastbound or westbound lane of US 2 from just east of Baring to Money Creek from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for bridge and striping work. This work is weather-dependent.

Crews will seismically retrofit 15 bridges on or near I-5 in South Seattle and on SR 900 in Renton. These retrofits will bring the bridges up to current seismic standards.       

  • Monday, August 25 - Friday, August 29 - Crews will close the right lane of eastbound and westbound SR 900 at the Aberdeen Street bridge for construction work. The eastbound lane will close from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the westbound lane will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, September 2 - Friday, September 5 -  Crews will close the right lane of eastbound and westbound SR 900 at the Aberdeen Street bridge for construction work. The eastbound lane will close from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the westbound lane will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Thursday, August 28 - Crews will close the right shoulder of northbound I-5 at the Columbian Way off-ramp from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for electrical work.
  • Tuesday, September 2 - Thursday, September 4 - Crews will close the northbound I-5 off-ramp to Columbian Way from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for electrical work.

WSDOT and Sound Transit will add HOV lanes to the I-90 outer roadway between Seattle and Bellevue. We will also build new I-90 HOV on and off-ramps on Mercer Island and will improve I-90 HOV access at Bellevue Way.

  • Tuesday, September 2 - Crews will close the I-90 center roadway from Bellevue Way to Rainier Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction work.
  • Tuesday, September 2 - Thursday, September 4 - Crews will close the HOV lane and two left lanes of westbound I-90 from Bellevue Way to East Mecer Way for construction work. The HOV lane will close at 7 p.m., the first left lane at 9 p.m. and the second left lane at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

August 2008 - The bicycle and pedestrian path along the East Channel Bridge will be narrowed to allow crews more room for construction work.

SR 99

  • Tuesday, September 2 - Wednesday, September 3 - Crews will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction of SR 99 at Southcenter Boulevard from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for electrical work. A uniformed police officer will direct traffic at the intersection.
  • Monday, June 23 - Thursday, October 30 - Crews will close Southcenter Boulevard from 42nd Avenue S. to 52nd Avenue S. 24 hours a day, Monday through Saturday, to install a drainage system on Southcenter Boulevard.

  • Monday, August 25 - Thursday, August 28 - Crews will close one lane of northbound or southbound SR 169 from SE 231st Street to 196th Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping work. Flaggers will alternate traffic through the open lane. This work is weather-dependent.
  • Tuesday, September 2 - Wednesday, September 3 - Crews will close the right lane of northbound SR 169 between 231st Street and 216th SE Way from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for construction work.

SR 169: Landslide repair at bridge over Green River, #MS 6053

We will begin the first phase of a two stage project to stabilize a landslide under the southeast end of the approach to the Kummer Bridge. We will be installing soil nails and spray-on concrete to hold the slope in place. During the second phase, to begin in late September, we will install a series of drainage pipes to remove excess groundwater from the landslide area.

  • Friday, August 29 - Crew will reduce the SR 167 bridge over the Green River to one lane of alternating north and southbound traffic from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m for construction work.
  • Saturday, August 30 - Monday, September 1 - Both lanes of SR 167 at the Green River bridge will be open to traffic for Labor Day travel.
  • Tuesday, September 2 - Sunday, September 14 - Crews will reduce SR 167 at the Green River bridge to one lane of alternating north and southbound traffic from dawn to dusk for construction work. Both lanes will be open overnight.

SR 202

SR 202: SR 520 to Sahalee Way Widening, Stage 2 #7030 and Wetland Mitigation

I-405: Renton Widening (I-5 to SR 167), -Stage 1 #7295

I-405 - Renton - Slide Repair and Culvert Replacement #7510

Crews will replace a culvert under I-405 in Renton that was damaged in the Dec. 3 storm.  First, crews installed a pump and pipe system to divert Thunder Hills Creek away from the damaged culvert. Next, crews will use a hydraulic jack to install a new culvert.

  • Monday, August 25 - Friday, August 29 - Crews will alternate traffic into one lane on Benson Road, near Grady Way from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily to allow for culvert repair work.
  • Tuesday, September 2 - Thursday, September 4 - Crews will close the right lane of northbound I-405 between Rainier Avenue and Sunset Way in Renton from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction work.
  • Wednesday, September 3 - Friday, September 5 - Crews will alternate traffic into one lane on Benson Road, near Grady Way from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily to allow for culvert repair work.

I-405: South Bellevue Widening (112th Ave SE to SE 8th Street), #7283

I-405: NE 10th Street Bridge Crossing

WSDOT is partnering with the city of Bellevue to build a new freeway bridge at NE 10th Street in Bellevue. The NE 10th Street Bridge will be built in two stages. The city of Bellevue will construct the first stage. WSDOT will construct the bridge over I-405 in the second stage.

WSDOT and Sound Transit are building a new I-405 overpass connecting NE 128th Street to the northbound and southbound HOV lanes on I-405. This will increase safety and reduce slowdowns caused by weaving or merging traffic, and improve transit schedule reliability.

SR 410

WSDOT will improve safety in the SR 410 and SR 164 corridors by constructing guardrail, flattening side slopes and maximizing the clear zone.

  • Monday, August 25 - Friday, August 29 - Crews will alternate the eastbound and westbound lanes of SR 410 from just east of the city of Greenwater to just west of Corral Pass Road from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m to install guardrail. On Friday, crews will alternate traffic from 8 a.m. to noon.

SR 518

SR 519: South Royal Brougham Way Soil Drilling

WSDOT is improving connections for ferry and freight traffic to the Port of Seattle terminals and the central waterfront area. SR 519 improvements will separate car, freight, pedestrian and rail traffic to help improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and reduce the risk of collisions. This project is still in the design phase.

  • This project is on hold until October 2008.

SR 522

SR 522: HOV Enhancement Phase 2 - City of Kenmore

The city of Kenmore will make several improvements to SR 522 between 73rd Avenue NE and the east city limits, including adding new traffic signals and sidewalks, widening SR 522 for business access and transit lanes, and replacing the Swamp Creek Bridge.

  • Until further notice: Crews have shifted traffic lanes between NE 80th Aveneue  and NE 83rd Place for paving and utility work. The middle two-way turn lane and the left turn and U-turn at NE 83rd Place is closed as a result of the traffic shift. A detour route is provided.

SR 522: NE 195th Street Signal and Channelization, #7290

In this project we will construct a new signal for the westbound on-ramp to SR 522 at NE 195th street in Woodinville. We will also add an additional westbound on-ramp lane to improve traffic flow.

SR 522: Bothell/UW entrance widening project, #7431

Crews will build a new entrance to the south side of the University of Washington Bothell campus. Our plans also include improvements to State Route 522 (Bothell Way NE) from the I-405 interchange to SR 527.

  • Monday, August 25 - Thursday, August 28 - Crews will close one eastbound or westbound lane on SR 522 from I-405 to Kaysner Way from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to excavate the site for construction.
  • Sunday, August 31 - Thursday, September 4 - Crews will close one eastbound or westbound lane on SR 522 from I-405 to Kaysner Way from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to excavate the site for construction.
  • Monday, August 25 - Until Further Notice - Crews will shift traffic from eastbound SR 522 at I-405 to the collector-distributor (center lane) and back to SR 522 via a temporary roadway. This traffic shift is necessary for new road construction.
  • Monday, August 25 - Friday, October 24 - Crews will close the left turn lane from Woodinville Drive to westbound SR 522 for 60 days for road construction work. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes. Crews will also close the westbound SR 522 U-turn to eastbound SR 522 at Woodinville Drive. Westbound drivers are advised to make U-turn at Kaysner Way.
  • August 2008 - Crews working for WSDOT have closed a segment of the North Creek bicycle/pedestrian trail from just north of State Route 522 on the University of Washington Bothell/Cascadia Community College Campus to the SR 522 overpass near the junction of the Sammamish River Trail. The month-long closure is necessary so crews can begin widening the SR 522 bridges and build a new southern entrance to the college campus.

SR 900

The pavement on SR 900 between S. Boeing Access Road and I-5 is deteriorating and in need of repair. To extend the life of the roadway, we will remove concrete panels and repave on both SR 900 and the adjacent northbound I-5 collector distributor lane.

Crews will widen SR 900 from the vicinity of SE 78th Street and SE 82nd Street to Newport way. The I-90 shoulders on the westbound off-ramp to SR 900 will also be widened.

  • Until further notice: Crews will alternately close one lane in each direction from Newport Way to Talus Drive from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily for roadway widening work. One lane will remain open at all times. Flaggers will alternate northbound and southbound traffic into the open lane during the closures.
