Weekly update of construction closures in Downtown Seattle and SODO

This webpage contains information about WSDOT construction projects affecting vehicle or pedestrian traffic through downtown Seattle and SODO. If a highway is not listed below, there are no scheduled lane closures at this time, although emergency lane closures may still occur.

This information changes frequently so please check back often. Travelers can also call 5-1-1 or monitor @WSDOT_Traffic on Twitter for real-time traffic and weather updates.

Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-5 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

Work schedule:

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, April 20, to the morning of Monday, April 23 - The I-5 express lanes will remain open in the northbound direction from 11:15 a.m. Friday to 4:30 a.m. Monday for #ReviveI5 construction work. The lanes will open in the southbound direction on Monday at the regular weekday time of 5 a.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Saturday, April 28 - The I-5 express lanes will remain open in the southbound direction all day for #ReviveI5 construction work. The lanes will close at the regular weekend time of 11 p.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Sunday, April 29 - The I-5 express lanes will remain open in the southbound direction all day for #ReviveI5 construction work. The lanes will close at the regular weekend time of 11 p.m.
NB MLK Jr Way to NE Ravenna Br Pavement Repair - #8952

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing 37 expansion joints and large sections of concrete pavement on northbound I-5 between MLK Junior Way South/SR 900 in Tukwila and Northeast Ravenna Boulevard in Seattle.

LANE CLOSURES

  • Monday, April 16, to the morning of Thursday, April 19 - Three left lanes of northbound I-5 between Swift Avenue/Albro Place and the West Seattle Bridge will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. nightly. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. daily. This work is weather dependent.
  • Thursday, April 19, to the morning of Friday, April 20 - Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between Swift Avenue/Albro Place and the West Seattle Bridge will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, April 20, to the morning of Monday, April 23 - Northbound I-5 will be reduced to two lanes between the West Seattle Bridge and Olive Way beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday. This work is weather dependent.

RAMP CLOSURES

  • Monday, April 16, to the morning of Tuesday, April 17 - The left lane of the northbound I-5 off-ramp to West Seattle Bridge/Spokane Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Monday, April 16, to the morning of Wednesday, April 18 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Dearborn Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, April 16, to the morning of Friday, April 20 - The Cherry Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, April 16, to the morning of Friday, April 20 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Olive Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Wednesday, April 18, to the morning of Friday, April 20 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Dearborn, James and Madison Streets will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Wednesday, April 18, to the morning of Friday, April 20 - The eastbound I-90/Edgar Martinez Drive on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, April 20, to the morning of Monday, April 23 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to West Seattle Bridge/Spokane Street/Columbian Way will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This work is weather dependent.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, April 20, to the morning of Monday, April 23 - The Columbian Way on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This work is weather dependent.

SB S Lucile St to Spring St Pavement Repair & ADA - #9235

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing broken concrete panels, grinding and repaving southbound I-5 and the collector/distributor between Spring Street and South Lucile Street in Seattle.

Express Lanes Entrances Electronic Sign Replacement

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing the sign structures and brackets, along with the electrical and fiber optic systems at seven entrances to the I-5 express lanes. A few of the sign structures will also be redesigned to create a better viewing angle.

Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations (Stage 3) - #8662

Description: WSDOT and Sound Transit contractor crews are adding HOV lanes to both directions of I-90 between Seattle and Bellevue and preparing the center roadway for East Link light rail.

Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Project

Roy St to N 145th St Paving & ADA

Description: WSDOT construction crews are grinding and repaving 7.5 miles of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North between Roy Street and North 145th Street in Seattle. Dozens of pedestrian ramps will also be rebuilt.

Aurora Bridge Painting (Stage 2) - #9168

Description: WSDOT construction crews are cleaning and repainting the Aurora Bridge. Crews are also grinding and repaving the driving surface of the bridge, and repairing seven expansion joints.

Description: The West Approach Bridge North Project is the latest phase of construction of the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program and will extend SR 520's three westbound lanes from the new floating bridge to the Montlake area in Seattle.
