GIG HARBOR – Next week, crews working for design-builder Tacoma Narrows Constructors will be busy preparing State Route 16 on both sides of the Narrows for the new bridge’s opening. The work will require numerous night lane and ramp closures. Motorists are advised to expect delays, and if possible, to postpone discretionary trips.
The lane and ramp closures will occur as follows, weather-permitting:
Friday, July 6
• 8 p.m. – Reducing eastbound SR 16 to one lane at toll plaza area on west side of bridge. Crews to also close the eastbound SR 16 exit to 36th Street NW. Lane and ramp to reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday.
Saturday, July 7
• 8 p.m.– Reducing eastbound SR 16 to one lane at toll plaza area on the west side of the bridge. Crews to also close the eastbound exit to 36th Street NW. Lane and ramp to open by 8 a.m. Sunday.
• 10 p.m. - Reducing westbound SR 16 to one lane on the east side of the bridge. Lane to reopen by 9 a.m. following morning
Sunday, July 8:
• 9 p.m. - Reducing eastbound SR 16 to one lane at toll plaza area on the west side of the bridge. Crews to also close the eastbound exit to 36th Street NW. Lane and ramp to open by 5 a.m. Monday.
Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 12:
• 9 p.m. – Reducing westbound SR 16 to one lane for paving work on east end of bridge. Lane to reopen by 7 a.m. each following morning.
Wednesday, July 11:
• 9 p.m. – Reducing westbound SR 16 to one lane between the weigh station and Olympic Drive for roadway striping Lane to reopen by 7 a.m.
Thursday, July 12:
• 9 p.m. - Reducing westbound SR 16 to one lane between the pedestrian overpass and the east end of the bridge. Lane to reopen by 7 a.m.
Friday, July 13:
• 10 p.m. – Reducing westbound SR 16 to one lane for paving work on east end of bridge. Lane to reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday.
