GIG HARBOR – Weather permitting, night lane closures and a short ramp closure will occur next week on State Route 16 as crews working for design-builder Tacoma Narrows Constructors continue building a new highway for the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
The closures are scheduled as listed below (please note that in the event of inclement weather, the closures and work will be postponed):
Monday, June 11
7 p.m. - Close a single eastbound lane near 36th Street NW for grinding and roadway repair activities. Reopen the lane by 5 a.m. Tuesday. For several hours during that time frame, crews will also close the SR 16 eastbound exit and on-ramp at 36th Street NW.
Tuesday, June 12
7 p.m. – Close a single eastbound lane on the west side of the bridge for preleveling work. Lane to reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
9 p.m. – Close a single westbound lane on the west side of the bridge for roadway striping activities. Lane to reopen by 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Wednesday, June 13
7 p.m. - Close a single eastbound lane near 36th Street NW to install magnetic loops into the pavement. (Magnetic loops are a tool WSDOT uses to gauge traffic congestion along many state highways. They work by sensing how many vehicles are traveling along a highway lane and at what speed.) Lane to reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday.
Paving work will also occur behind barrier on the east side of the bridge near Jackson Avenue. Because this work takes place behind barrier, no lane closures will be needed.
