McGOWAN - The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has
officially delayed the start of construction on the US 101 realignment
project at Station Camp in Pacific County. The delay comes as a result
of recent archeological finds at the project site, located west of the
Astoria-Megler Bridge near McGowan.
The archeology work was originally scheduled to end this Friday (January
28), with construction of the highway realignment beginning on Monday,
January 31. However, last weekend the archeological team working at the
project site discovered a plank feature within the proposed
new alignment of the highway.
After reviewing the information about the find, the project partners
decided that the archeologists should be given additional time to assess
the plank feature and determine its function and significance. When construction
will resume will not be known until the archeology work is complete.
