Highway Usage Branch

The Highway Usage Branch is responsible for installation and maintenance of automated data collection (ADC) sites which are permanently embedded in the roadway continuously collecting traffic data; collection of short count traffic data (includes manual counts and 48 hour tube counts); processing short count and ADC traffic data for inclusion in the Transportation Information Planning Support (TRIPS) database; analyzing collected traffic data for abnormalities; responding to customer requests for traffic data; and providing Strategic Highway Research Program / Long Term Pavement Performance (SHRP/LTPP) site data to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
