Culvert Inspection Program
The Culvert Inspection Program is a program that utilizes high tech robotic video collection and storage equipment to inspect and make available video files clearly identifying the condition of suspect culverts.
Why is the Culvert Inspection Program needed?
The Culvert Inspection Program is needed to identify suspect culverts before they fail and endanger the traveling public. In some cases, a culvert's poor condition is not known until it fails. This may result in the road surface above it collapsing, implementation of emergency road closures and repair/replacement, and the associated adverse impacts on highway users. The Culvert Inspection Program is needed to identify culverts before they fail.
Culverts that suffer a catastrophic failure and force emergency repairs are a serious safety hazard and very costly to repair.
Common Uses:
| |
Program Management: to strategically spend culvert repair and replacement dollars to prevent catastrophic failures
|
| |
Design: to provide information of how drainage systems are tied together to allow better design decisions
|
| |
Maintenance: to accurately locate where a culvert is damaged or blocked to reduce the time and cost to repair
