          Citation Information:
Originator: Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Office of Information Technology, TRIPS
            Title: Design Speed Curve Program
            Other Citation Details:
The program that generates the curve speed uses record type 2 data from the TRIPS adabas file and a table for speed and horizontal alignment curve radius. This table starts at 20 MPH and is incremented by 5 up to 80 MPH. Each speed (20, 25, etc, has 10 horizontal alignment curve radii associated with it) To determine which radius to use, Trips first looks at the horizontal alignment max elevation (see HOW INDEXES ARE DETERMINED). Based on this it determines which index (can be 1 to 10) to use to read the table. Trips uses the index to place itself to the correct position in the table. It then interrogates the 13 ROWS and tries to match one with the one input from record type 2 from the Trips Adabas file. If it finds it in the table, it uses the speed associated with it. In the case of the 19 MPH it determined that the horizontal alignment max elevation was less than .020 so it set the index to 1 to use in the table search. It then searches the first occurrence in each of 13 rows of speed (20 - 80). In this case, the horizontal alignment max elevation was < 02142 (the first occurrence in the speed 20 row). Since the lowest speed in the table is 20, it defaults to 19. If the horizontal alignment max elevation had been > 22528, the first occurrence for the speed 80 row, it would default to 80.

        Process Description:
Data originated from the TRansportation Information and Planning Support (TRIPS) mainframe database which in turn then feeds into a sequel database which offers greater flexibility in reporting. The information is then extracted using the tool Hyperion and exported into the Excel format.
