Abstract:
This is an extract from the TRansportation Information and Planning Support (TRIPS) mainframe database for National Highway System (NHS) Route events along State Routes. State Route identifiers and locations based on State Route Mileposts and Accumulated Route Mileage are also included for geographic reference and for use with the Washington State Department of Transportation's 24k and 500k Linear Referencing Systems.
Purpose:
To enable Geographic Information System users to more easily display and analyze a subset of the data contained in the State Highway Log in conjunction with the Washington State 24k and 500k Linear Referencing Systems.
Supplemental Information:
National Highway System (NHS) Route events depict the FHWA approved National Highway System for Washington State Highways as reported in the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). For this update, all approved NHS routes for calendar year 2011 are included.

The data contained within the State Highway Log is collected and updated using contract plans, field reviews and information provided by numerous WSDOT Regional and Headquarters offices as well as other county and city sources over the course of a year. This data may have changed since the publication date.
Only those records that have a SRID (State Route Identifier) found in the Washington State Highways at 24K Linear Referencing System can be graphically placed as events. SRIDs that have been added or revised since the completeness date of the LRS will not place, nor will SRIDs for road features not carried by the LRS.

Process Description:
Data originated from the TRansportation Information and Planning Support (TRIPS) mainframe database which in turn then feeds into a sequel database which offers greater flexibility in reporting. The information is then extracted using the tool Hyperion and exported into the Excel format.

Process Description:
Increasing and Decreasing Event Data was placed, exported to Feature Classes, and merged.
The Symmetrical Difference (Analysis, Overlay) tool was used (Decreasing - Input, Increasing - Update) to create a new feature class.
The Intersect (Analysis, Overlay) tool was used on the merged feature class to create a new feature class. The direction field in this feature class is calculated to "B".
The Dissolve (Data Management, Generalization) tool was used on the intersect feature class.
The Clip (Analysis, Extract) was used (Merged feature class- Input, Symmetrical Difference feature class - Clip).
The Clipped and Dissolved feature classes were then merged.
Definition queries placed on the new feature class; then, the Locate Features Along Routes (Linear Reference) tool was used to create two new tables.
Route events were placed using these new tables.
Other event data was placed and merged with the IncBoth and Dec feature classes to create one final feature class.
If errors, error messages were reviewed. An EVENTERR column was added, 0 = No Error and 1 = Error.
