Cross checked all attribute data with several aviation databases to make sure all the correct ID information was assigned to each specific airport. There were some minor discrepancies with the attribute information included and the 2001 Pilot's Guide or http://www.gcr1.com/5010WEB/default.htm the Airport Summary and Activity Data Website.

Combination of Pilot's Guide, and GPS data cross checked using Orthphotos and USGS Topology Maps as well as http://www.gcr1.com/5010WEB/default.htm. Much of the attribute data was provided from the WSDOT Aviation Access and SQL databases.

Step One: Take collect GPS data and plots in ArcGIS
Step Two: Cross check the point data with USGS 7.5 minute quad maps with airport sites, as well as the WSDOT/DNR digital ortophotos to make sure all airports plotted in the correct location.
Step Three: For the 1/2 dozen airports that didn't plot correctly using the website above, and the USGS topo maps as well as ortho imagery the correct location was found and plotted. Accurate Latitude and Longitudes were located for each of these changes and noted in the attribute tables.
Step Four: The aviation data was split into two vector data layers. The first one was a centroid point for each runway to represent the site of the Airports. The second data layer was the creation of the runway path for each airport using the endpoints from the latitude and longitude information to create polylines.
Step Five: Had to go through the attribution for the airports to make sure all non-military airports for WA state were documented and spatial located. Those that were missing were added using the USGS Topos, Ortho Imagery and the above website.
Step Six: Attribution was added from several Access and SQL databases to meet the needs of the WSDOT Aviation office using Airport ID and Runway ID (a concatenation of the Airport ID and the runway orientation field) information for the join fields.
