EA, NC, OL, SC, SW Regions: Segments identifed as being associated with both sides of a state route were broken out into increasing and decreasing segments. Segments were then remapped using their original latitude and longitude values, except for segments in Eastern Region which didn't have latitude and longitude values available. The latitude and longitude values were converted to ARMs using the Locate Features Along Routes tool. The region and county fields were originally populated with numbers or a combination of names and numbers; the numbers were replaced with names. NW Region: Segments were remapped using their original latitude and longitude values. The latitude and longitude values were converted to ARMs using the Locate Features Along Routes tool. A section of SR 9 which had been realigned was visited by a biologist in order to GPS the new sensitive segments. In order to combine the Northwest Region data with the rest of the state, the fields needed to be comparable. The Northwest Region dataset had several empty fields, as well as elevation values associated with the beginning and ending points of the segments. None of these fields were carried over into the combined dataset. Three fields unique to the Northwest Region dataset were BegComment, EndComment, and MAREA. These were carried over. Values in the fields corresponding to TYPE_CODE, PI_CODE, and HQ_CODE were recalculated in order to be comparable with the rest of the state. A PRIORITY field was added and calculated based on the matrix used by the rest of the state. The Northwest Region had date fields for both the beginning and ending points, which were not always the same. Only the beginning data was retained. All Regions: Data for all the regions were combined and new unique IDs calculated. MAREA was determined for the segments in regions other than Northwest. When the 2008 LRS data became available, ARMs and SRMPs (buffered and unbuffered) were updated for all segments using the Excel version of ARMCalc. The segments were then placed on the 2008 LRS using the buffered values.
2000 - 2003: Maintenance crews GPSed beginning and ending locations of sensitive area. These points were converted to state mileposts and buffered by 316 feet or .06 miles. The types of sensitive areas were determined and a priority matrix was developed to rank sensitive areas by impact from maintenance activities. 12/2006: RSMAIncreasing, RSMADecreasing, and RSMABoth models were used to convert Lat/Long points into 2005B State Route LRS events. Error Checking was done, and the three files were merged into a complete shapefile.
Field crews (transportation technicians) visit each feature in the field. The feature is located using a global positioning system receiver, feature attributes are visually determined and recorded, the feature milepost is calcuated using a distance measuring instrument and offset values are calculated using a laser range finder. For some features, images of the feature are taken using a digital camera. The features are post-processed in house by transportation technicians using Trimble software. The features are exported to shapefiles in the unprojected (NAD83) state. County and Northwest Region maintenance area values are calculated using ArcView 3.2 (ESRI) software. Mainline state route and mainline milepost values are computed using the 24k LRS and ArcMap 8.x (ESRI). The features are projected to the Washington State Plane South (NAD83) state using ESRI's ArcToolbox (8.x) software. Using ESRI's ArcCatalog(8.x) the features are uploaded to the appropriate sde. The feature attribute values are visually scanned for inconsistent and erroneous values in Sql Server Enterprise Manager. Spatial Data Organization InformationSection Index

Attribute Definition: The Ahead/Back indicator for BEG_SRMP. A "B" indicates back mileage.
Attribute Definition: The Ahead/Back indicator for BEG_SRMP300. A "B" indicates back mileage.
Attribute Definition: The ARM for the beginning point of the sensitive area, derived from the GPS location.
Attribute Definition: BEG_ARM including a 300 foot buffer. This was calculated by subtracting 0.06 miles (316.8 feet) from BEG_ARM. If BEG_ARM is less than 0.06, BEG_ARM300 is calculated to be 0.00.
Attribute Definition: The latitude for the beginning point of the sensitive area, from GPS. Not available for sites in Eastern Region.
Attribute Definition: The longitude for the beginning point of the sensitive area, from GPS. Not available for sites in Eastern Region.
Attribute Definition: The state route milepost for the beginning point of the sensitive area, derived from the BEG_ARM.
Attribute Definition: BEG_SRMP including a 300 foot buffer. This was calculated from BEG_ARM300.
Attribute Definition: A comment associated with the beginning of the sensitive area. This field is only filled in for sites in the Northwest Region.
Attribute Definition: The name of the county in which the site, or a majority of the site, is located.
