Abstract: State Routes are depicted as lines with State Route identifiers.
Purpose:
This data set is used: 1)for general-purpose base mapping; 2)as a Linear Referencing System (LRS); 3) for locating features on the State Route network by State Route Accumulated Route Mileage (dynamic segmentation). This dataset is a snapshot of the roadway system, effective 12/31/2008, also known as the 2008 LRS.
Supplemental Information: San Juan County contains no State Routes. This release of the State Highway LRS, continues with the road alignments being matched to orthoimagery and the GPS/LRS.

These data form a network representing the connectivity of State Routes (SR's) for Washington state. Nodes occur at SR endpoints and at points of intersection with other SR's, ramps, bridges, and county boundaries. This includes all State Routes, US Routes, Interstates, Frontage Roads, Local Access ramps, Ferry Terminals and some Proposed routes located within the TRIPS database.

The source file was digitized from 7.5 minute USGS quadrangles using Intergraph's Microstation software. The Microstation DGN file was converted to an Arc/Info coverage with the Arc command ""IGDSARC"" and transformed to geographic coordinates with Arc commands ""PROJECTDEFINE"" and ""PROJECT."" Attributes were added to the linework and routes were created with the ""ARCSECTION"" command based on Accumulated Route Mileage.

Existing lines from the previous LRS (Washington State Highways, 2000) were realigned to match orthoimagery. Three columns were added to the table of attributes. They are: Display, Rt_typeA, & Rt_typeB. A .dbf file containing values to be used was joined and the attribute values for the new columns were calculated. Routes were calculated while the coverage was in Washington State Plane South NAD 83 coordinate system. The coverage was then projected into Geographic NAD83.

Format Information Content:
The standard distribution compact disc contains all geospatial data sets created by the Washington State Dept. of Transportation. Refer to the included Geodata.txt text file for a brief description of the directory structure.
Data formats vary--most data are stored as ESRI shape files, but some data models require coverages. There are also dbf-format tables of data located by geographic coordinates or State Route Accumulated Route Mileage.

Ordering Instructions: Call, email or write the Distributor with requests for geo-spatial data sets.
Turnaround: Generally, the standard compact disc containing all distributed data can be sent within one week of receiving a data request.
