Abstract:
The Northwest Region of the Washington State Department of Transportation maintains the features on state routes and right of way areas. This dataset contains spatially referenced data on wetlands as defined by Section 404 of the Clean WAter Act using both GPS latitude/longitude and Linear Referencing System measurements.
Purpose: To provide information on the location of special maintenance areas on Washington state routes in the Northwest region.

Data Set Credit: This data was collected by employees of the Northwest Region of WSDOT under supervision by Tareq Al-zeer, Maintenance Engineer Assistant, NW Region. Native Data Set Environment: Trimble Asset Surveyor .ssf files and ESRI shapefiles (for distribution).

Process Description:
GPS measurements are taken with a Trimble Asset Surveyor and stored as.ssf files. These are exported to a PC. The files are corrected using base station data and are then combined. The combined files are exported to an Access Database as .mdb files. The location of the start and end milepost of each wetland was also measured with a Distance Measuring Instrument to give the MPBEGIN and MPEND values.
The GPS latitude and longitude measurements were translated into ARM (Adjusted Route Mile) values using WSDOT software. The wetlands were defined as line events on state routes and buffered at 200 ft distance from the highway. These buffers are the polygon features in the shapefile.
