South Central Maintenance serves the counties & communities of Asotin, Garfield, Columbia, Walla Walla, Franklin, Benton, Yakima, Kittitas, and parts of King and Whitman.

Our maintenance goal is to maintain the existing highway system with public and employee safety as a top priority.

The Region Maintenance offices are responsible for a total of 2,931 lane miles of highway. There are four strategically positioned Maintenance Areas located near Cle Elum, Yakima, Pasco, and Walla Walla. Within each Area there are other sheds to ensure maintenance personnel are positioned near the greatest areas of need.

Routine activities include:
Maintaining asphalt and concrete highways, roadsides, striping, traffic signals and illumination, signage, bridges, rest areas, drainage, and clearing snow and ice, dispatching Incident Response Teams, managing integrated vegetation, placing variable message signs, picking up litter, sweeping, and repairing public damages.
