    Seattle Main Terminal Traffic Alert-Ferry Holding Lane Closure As of Sept. 6, 2011, WSDOT will permanently close Alaskan Way S. between S. King Street and S. Atlantic Street and the ferry holding lanes under the viaduct. Drivers may continue to access the Washington State Ferries Colman Dock terminal at Pier 52 using Alaskan Way S., north of S. King Street. WSDOT has installed green "To Ferry" signs along the ferry access routes to help drivers find their way to the ferries. For drivers leaving the terminal, WSDOT has posted additional signs directing them to I-5 and I-90.

Tourist Information

Parking
There is no parking available at the terminal. The parking is at paid parking lots and metered ($2.50 hour, 2 hour max) parking. Parking fees at the Commuter Centre Parking garage across the street from the Terminal are $13.00 a day if you are in before 10 am and out by 6:30pm. $5.00 for 0-1 hours,$10.00 for 2 hours,$13.00 for 3 hours,$15.00 for 4 hours,$18.00 for 12 hours, and $22.00 for 24 hours.

Parking is available at the Commuter Center Garage or at two surface lots next to the Commuter Center Garage, 811 Western Ave. Daily and monthly rates are available, at (206) 284-6303. The surface lot at 814 Western Ave. is under construction.There is a 22% tax in addition to these parking fees.

Airport
Follow signs for I-5 North. Seattle Ferry terminal is exit 164B, about 30 minutes driving north; this is the Atlantic St exit and Safeco field exit.
The exit will take you to Edgar Martinez Dr which is between Safeco Field and the parking garage. At the stoplight on 1st Ave you can either go straight out to Alaskan Way on the waterfront or turn right on 1st Ave go one block to Royal Brougham Way and turn left to get out to Alaskan Way.
The terminal is about 1.2 miles north. Look for overhead signage. There is a special left hand turn lane specifically for vehicle traffic into the toll plaza.
NO DROP OFF at the toll plaza. It is strictly for vehicles and occupants boarding the ferry. Vehicles traveling Southbound take the Safeco Field exit.

Motorcycles
While motorcycles are not, by Washington Administrative Code (WAC 468-300-700), a preferential loading category of users, they are often loaded prior to automobiles for operational and staging purposes. Arrival at the dock after vehicle load has commenced requires motorcycles to wait until all cars have been loaded for the next motorcycle loading opportunity. Motorcycles should proceed, while on the dock, at no more than 10 mph. Use caution when car decks are wet. The following information details specific staging for this terminal:

  • Motorcycle Fare Purchase/Redemption
    Purchase tickets at the auto tollbooths, at the passenger booth, at the kiosk inside the terminal waiting room, or online in advance.


  • Motorcycle Entry/Staging
    Use booth #4 (right lane), if pre-ticketed, during commuter hours.
    May turn right into the toll plaza from southbound Alaskan Way or left from northbound Alaskan Way.

  • Motorcycle Loading
    Loading order: bicycles, motorcycles, vehicles, late arriving motorcycles as space permits.
  • Trucks
    WSF requires trucks with a gross vehicle weight of over 80,000 lbs and/or over 8’6” wide to have “travel approval” before crossing any of our routes. Vessels on this route have a limited height clearance and trucks may be loaded out of sequence.

    Trucks that have a gross vehicle weight of over 80,000 lbs but are hauling less than 80,000 lbs will need to provide a weight slip.

    Bikes
    Bicyclists may bypass the line of vehicle traffic to get onto the ferry dock but must go through a tollbooth. Bicyclists should arrive 20 minutes prior to departure time to be loaded at the beginning of loading process. If a bicyclist arrives after vehicle loading has begun, they will be loaded at the end of the load. During the commute hours (2:45 p.m.-6:45 p.m.), mid-loads of bicyclists are allowed. Bicycle racks are available under the terminal building. There are 6 racks holding 150 bikes.

    Train
    Amtrak is located at 3rd and King St., 303 S. Jackson Street Seattle, WA 98104 206-382-4125 or 1-800-USA-RAIL Amtrak.
    The train station is approximately 7 blocks from the ferry terminal and is within walking distance.
    There are other options to get between the ferry terminal and the train station. The first option is to take a taxi, they are located in front of the ferry terminal or across the street and are readily available.

    The Waterfront Streetcar is on hiatus for two (2) years while a new barn is built at Occidental Square. Route 99 bus service has replaced the streetcar and includes more frequent peak time service, better connections to Sounder rail and ferry, and the ability to load bikes. These buses are easily found because they are specially wrapped to look like the streetcar. Please check Route 99 for schedules.

    Taxi
    Taxicabs are located in front of the ferry terminal or across the street and are readily available.

    HOV
    When traveling to Pier 52, carpool/vanpool drivers may turn right onto the ferry terminal during peak commute hours when other vehicles cannot. Carpool/Vanpools must be ticketed and in line 10 minutes before scheduled sailing time to receive preferential loading. If you are late, you will be loaded on a space available basis at the end of the loading. Car/van pools need to be registered or a recognized HOV with the ferry system HOV program, to receive loading privileges.     Fare Discounts

    We offer seniors (65+), persons with disabilities and passengers with a Medicare card, or other eligibility verification, travel at half the regular passenger fare rate. We offer special rates for youth 6-18 years of age. Children, 5 and under travel free.

    Multi-ride cards are good for 90 days from the date of purchase and are non-refundable.

    All lost & found items on this route are turned into the Seattle Terminal. You can reach the Lost & Found Department at 206-515-3439.
