Marine Mass Transit

Marine Mass Transit Besides being the number one tourist attraction in the state, Washington State Ferries is the second largest mass transit system here. There are 28 ferries in our fleet. Most carry vehicles and passengers, but a few are passenger-only vessels. Of 28 ferries, nine carry more than 150 cars and 2,000 plus passengers. Nine others carry 100 plus cars, and more than 1,000 passengers.

Eleven smaller ferries carry only passengers or 75 or less cars. Most of the larger boats are on commuter routes that connect with Seattle, Bremerton, Bainbridge Island, Vashon Island, Kingston or Edmonds. Smaller vessels travel to more remote ports of call. When you call for schedule information, ask about the size of the boats on your route, and approximate waiting times.
