Reporting to the Secretary of Transportation, the OEO Director provides statewide direction of department programs relating to internal and external civil rights, which include Affirmative Action, Discrimination Complaint Investigations, Americans With Disabilities Act, Diversity Training, Disadvantaged Minority/Women Business Enterprises (DMWBE), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), On-The-Job Training (OJT), and Title VI programs.
Represents the Department and provides liaison with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Human Rights Commission (HRC), and other regulatory agencies responsible for complaint resolution and administration of the department’s Equal Employment Opportunity Program.
Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) Honored

Brenda Nnambi and the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) were recently honored on two separate occasions for their services.
On January 13, 2007 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in Olympia, Brenda Nnambi was awarded the 2007 Excellence in Public Service Award by the Olympia Capital Chapter of Blacks in Government. The award was presented by Virgil Clarkson, Mayor of the City of Lacey, Washington.
On February 9, 2007, WSDOT’s OEO was honored by the Northwest Minority Business Council with the 2007 Pioneer Award. The award was presented to OEO in special recognition of their outstanding 10 year commitment to Supplier Diversity. Accepting the award for OEO were Jim Medina, External Civil Rights Manager and Margarita Mendoza de Sugiyama, Diversity Programs Administrator.
