SUBJECT: Catwalks on VMS Sign Supports

 

At the Maintenance Supervisor’s meeting in April, the issue of providing catwalks for VMS was raised. Based on the discussion at the meeting, the following guidelines should be followed.

8 Foot Shoulder (or more) is Provided

    Provide a catwalk on the sign support.

Less than 8 foot Shoulder is Provided

    Do not provide a catwalk on the sign support.

The Maintenance Supervisors advise that if the shoulder is less than 8 feet, a lane must be taken to perform maintenance on the VMS, and the catwalk does not facilitate the maintenance effort.
