SUBJECT: | Approved Computer Software for Structural Design |
The Bridge and Structures Office has a number of approved computer software programs that have been developed and tested. They are as follows:
WINDOWS DESKTOP APPLICATIONS
Barlist, BRIDG for Windows, QConBridge, PG Super (still under development - use with caution).
COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE
Excel, MathCAD, Merlin-Dash, Lpile+, GRStrudl, BDS, FAD, RECOL, SEISAB.
VAX UTILITY PROGRAMS
BEAMCAM, BEAMDEF, BIAXGEN, BIAXIAL, BOXGIRD, COMGIR, CONCRT, CURVEL, GENCOMP, GIRCOMP, GPILE, PSGDES, SHRINK, TORSION, TRSSMEM, ULT2AX, ULTCOL, YIELD.
It has come to my attention that some of our bridge design work is being performed with computer tools that are not on the above list. These include analysis tools (such as spreadsheets) developed by one engineer and used by others, and commercial software that is not from the above approved list but has been leaded on a WSDOT computer. Only the software listed above is approved for use by all Design Section Staff. All commercial software that has not been approved or purchased and properly licensed by our Computer Support Staff should be removed for WSDOT computers. If a designer chooses to use an analysis tool developed by another engineer, the designer shall thoroughly check the analysis tool to assure the integrity of the structural design.
