SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge Retrofit and East Half Replacement
Project Info
The eastern half of the Hood Canal Bridge
is nearing the end of its structural service life. Repairs would not
significantly extend the life of the bridge and rebuilding is more
cost effective.
Current construction includes pontoon and anchor
construction, material fabrication, assembly and outfitting. In addition,
the west half has already been widened to allow for continuous eight-foot
shoulders across the entire length of the bridge -- matching the new
east half.
The bridge will close for six weeks in May-June 2009 when the east-half
is replaced and the east and west-half transition trusses are replaced.
When the project is complete, the bridge will be wider, safer and more
affordable to maintain- protecting the lives and livelihoods on the
Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula that depend on the bridge.
