Experimental Design for Noise Attenuation for Pile Driving

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) solicits interest from consultants who wish to be evaluated and considered in a competitive selection process to develop an experimental design or approach for attenuating underwater noise caused by pile driving. The selected consultant will be paid $25,000 for submitting the proposal that contains an experimental design with sufficient merits to pursue in a future field study. The selected noise attenuation device or method would be implemented as an experiment at the Vashon Island Ferry Terminal improvement project, currently scheduled for 4 th quarter 2008. Project design is scheduled to be complete in April 2008. The winning proposal(s) will not be responsible for providing the fabrication of the experimental design, but will be responsible to help reduce costs through innovative design considerations. The implementation of the research project will be accomplished in a Phase II scope of work that will be negotiated between the parties.
