The data was obtained using two different methodologies. One method utilized the Airport Management Interview, which was a personal discussion between the WSDOT Aviation Division's airport planning consultant and a representative of the airport. In many cases, the airport's representative was the airport manager. However, in other instances where an airport manager was not available, it was a representative from the agency or organization with jurisdiction over the airport (i.e., city, county, port district, etc.) The other method employed a Physical Site Inventory where a licensed airport engineer personally visited the airport and collected specific measurements and information about the facility. The information was then transferred to a data sheet and entered into the database. Wherever possible, the data was crosschecked and verified against existing published information. Sources of existing information included the Airport Layout Plan on file with the FAA, the Airport's Master Plan, the Airport Facility Directory, the Airport Master Record (FAA Form 5010), the Airport Facility Inventory Drawing, or the Airport Development Plan. The 1997 WSASP Airport Management Interviews and Physical Inventories were conducted during the period from February 24, 1997 to February 2, 1998. The 2003 Airport Management Interview and Physical Inventories were conducted during the period from January 2, 2002 to March 4, 2003. Which airports are included in the database? The initial inventory update in 1997 focused site visits on all airports below reliever status for a total of 81 airports. The 2003 update also included site visits to public use seaplane bases, State owned and/or operated airports, and those reliever and commercial service airports not certified under FAR Part 139 for a total of 114 airports. For those airports that we did not visit, we performed a comprehensive review of existing background information. Sources of information for the comprehensive review included the Airport Layout Plan on file with the FAA, the Airport's Master Plan, the Airport Facility Directory, the Airport Master Record (FAA Form 5010), the Airport Facility Inventory Drawing, or the Airport Development Plan. The reviews were conducted for each of the 127 public-use airports in the system. If for some reason you do not find certain information on your airport, it is more than likely because a personal interview with airport management and physical site inventory was beyond the scope of work for the project or the information did not exist in any other existing publication or document. If you would like to "fill in the blanks" for your airport, we are very interested in receiving that information. Just fill out a Change Form (located under the "General" heading on the Database Home Page) and send it on in to us! What should I do if I find incorrect information in the database? You have several choices. One, you can fill out a Change Form while you're in the database (under the "General" heading on the Database Home Page). Two, you can make a note of the information and contact either John Shambaugh, Theresa Smith or Stan Allison of the Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation Division. Their telephone number is (360) 651-6300 or (800) 552-0666 (within Washington State only). John Shambaugh’s e-mail address is shambaj@wsdot.wa.gov. Theresa Smith's e-mail address is smithtl@wsdot.wa.gov. Stan Allison's e-mail address is allisos@wsdot.wa.gov. Or three, you can write to us at the WSDOT Aviation Division; 3704 172nd Street NE Suite K2; P.O. Box 3367; Arlington, WA; 98223-3367. We welcome any and all suggestions for updating the information contained in the database! Is the Aviation Division available to provide technical assistance on aspects of the Washington State Aviation System? Absolutely! If you have any questions or need technical assistance regarding aviation in Washington State, you may contact any one of our staff. A complete description of each individual's roles and responsibilities is included on our Aviation home page under Contact Our Aviation Staff. If I would like to get an electronic copy of the database, is there one available? You can download an electronic copy of the database by clicking here. Or, if you contact any one of our Planning Team staff and give us your name and address, we will "burn" a CD and mail it to you. You will need MS Access 2000 installed on your computer and a CDrom drive to open the database file. |
