Supplemental Weather Information
All pilots are required to check en route and destination weather prior to all flights; however, not all areas en route provide METAR reports, and PIREP’s are not always available. There is supplemental weather information available to anyone with Internet access, and this information is helpful for search and rescue (SAR) operations and backcountry flying. The Web site for the remote weather reporting sites is provided by NOAA.
Pilots can simply click on a site on the chart and current weather is displayed for that area. Another system that can be useful is WSDOT web cameras in the passes: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic Pick an area and click on the camera icon for a view of the location. The above information is provided as supplemental information on remote regions. Pilots should obtain a formal weather briefing from your Flight Service Station prior to all trips.
Weather Channel
