Description
Located just east of the town of Skykomish, it is one of the very best turf airports around. Within one mile you can find food, lodging, and a quaint small town atmosphere. The large runway and parking area lend themselves to many club fly-ins. Glider operations and occasional forest fire fighting activities may occur in the summer. A neighborhoood caretaker keeps the 2,050 turf runway mowed like a golf course. The 100 foot wide runway is marked with edge reflectors. There are camping facilities and an outdoor toilet.
Trees surround the airport and are close to the runway on the west end. The field elevation is estimated at 1,002 feet, but coupled with the short runway can present some density altitude problems. The runway retains water extremely well and is very soft when wet. The runway is slightly rough and has a slight uphill slope to the east. The airport is generally open by June 1st to October 1st.
This airport has been adopted by the Washington Pilots Association, Paine Field Chapter.
