City: Skykomish
ID: S88
Description
Located just east of the town of Skykomish, it is one of the very best turf airports around. Within one mile you can find food, lodging, and a quaint small town atmosphere. The large runway and parking area lend themselves to many club fly-ins. Glider operations are common in the summer. The Forest Service uses Skykomish frequently. The live-in caretaker keeps the 2,050 turf runway mowed like a golf course. The 100 foot wide center strip is marked with reflectors. There are camping facilities with running water and an outdoor toilet.
Trees surround the airport and are close to the runway on the west end. The field elevation is only 998 feet, but coupled with the short runway can present some density altitude problems. The runway retains water extremely well and is very soft when wet. The runway is slightly rough and has a slight uphill slope to the west. The airport is generally open by June 1st to October 1st.
This airport has been adopted by the Washington Pilots Association, Paine Field Chapter.
