Since the opening of the new bridge, an average of 41,000 vehicles cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge eastbound each day. Prior to opening, traffic engineers predicted that with the introduction of tolling there would be a 10 to 15 percent drop in traffic. However, following a slight dip during the first week of operation, traffic returned to pre-tolling levels.
