SR 167 Extension Tolling Study

Proposed SR 167 extension
from Edgewood to Tacoma
The State Route 167 extension, which would connect the existing SR 167 to the Port of Tacoma, is an unfunded critical link in the state's highway network. This project has been on the transportation wish list for over 20 years and provides the final link in the 50-mile-long eastside corridor that runs from Lynnwood to Tacoma.

Why is WSDOT studying the idea of tolls for the SR 167 extension?
Completion of the SR 167 extension will require a significant amount of funding that is not likely to be available from traditional funding sources such as the gas tax. Tolling could help pay for the construction of the extension and may finally make the project feasible.

The End Result
When completed, this study will have analyzed future construction phasing and tolling options for consideration by the Legislature.

Who is involved in the study?
A stakeholder committee has been formed with members from WSDOT, elected officials, community members and local jurisdictions. Members of the public are also encouraged to submit their feedback on the study.

What is the timeline for the study?

July 2011- Summer 2012
Alternatives analysis, stakeholder engagement and public outreach
Fall 2012 Prelimiary results
December 2012 Final Report

What will be done with the results of the study?
Results of the study, including information gathered from public will be submitted to the Legislature. The Legislature must authorize tolling for a corridor before rates can be set and tolls are collected.
