SR 167 HOT Lanes Updates

SR 167 HOT Lanes Information

HOT Lanes are Moving Washington faster
More commuters are saving time and experiencing less congestion-related stress on SR 167.

This pilot project provides toll-free express trips for buses, motorcycles, vanpools and carpools of two or more, while giving solo drivers the option to pay for a faster, more reliable trip. Toll rates adjust electronically to ensure traffic in the HOT lane is free flowing even when the regular lanes are congested.

Solo drivers who choose to use the HOT lanes must install a Good To Go! pass in their vehicle. A Good To Go! switchable pass is well-suited for SR 167 HOT lanes users, as it can be turned on or off depending on the number of people in the car.

How are we doing?

  • In April 2012, there was 3,400 tolled trips in the HOT lanes which is more than double the volumes from April 2009.
  • The average toll rate paid is $1.25.
  • During the peak hour, SR 167 HOT lane driver saves an average of six minutes for a $1.75 toll.
  • The average number of daily tolled trips continues to increase.
  • The average daily revenue continues to increase and HOT lanes are operating in the black. Annual revenue increased 80 perent between April 2009 and March 2012.

All spending is appropriated by the legislature and monitored by the Office of Financial Management. Once the money is appropriated, WSDOT may use it to pay for the cost of maintaining the tolling system. A portion of the revenue may be dedicated to increase transit, vanpool, carpool and other services for the SR 167 corridor. All toll rates are set by the Transportation Commission .
