Riding the bus is one way to increase the capacity of Washington State's transportation system.

WSDOT invests in and promotes a variety of strategies for commute options, including the use of carpools, vanpools, buses, bicycling, walking, compressed work hours, or working from home.
The more that people commute by bus, vanpool, or train, the greater the number of people our congested corridors can carry during peak periods. Using strategies that increase the carrying capacity of the system—such as enabling greater use of high-occupancy vehicles (HOV), shifting trips out of rush hours, and eliminating the need for a trip altogether—helps us get the most out of our transportation investments.
