Perhaps you’re a big fan of NASCAR. Or perhaps you are from Clark County and you know him as a local celebrity. Whatever the case may be, you probably heard that NASCAR star Greg Biffle visited Southwest Washington this summer. A Camas native, Biffle attended the Camas Days this year, but more importantly to WSDOT, he graciously agreed to participate in the “Give ‘em a Brake” campaign by filming a 30-second public service announcement, together with Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Secretary Doug MacDonald and Washington State Patrol’s (WSP) Sergeant Monica Hunter. Governor Gregoire also participated in the filming but was not present.
The filming took place on the bright, sunny morning of July 18 in Camas. Several Main Street maintenance crew members were gracious enough to help supply and set up the “film set,” arranging cones and signs, bringing rigs, and most importantly, participating in the filming itself!
The “Give ‘em a Brake” campaign has remained an important cause to WSDOT. With safety being on the forefront of everyone’s agendas, taking precaution and warning motorists to slow down for road crews is an important message worth broadcasting. Safety of both road crews and motorists is an on-going concern. By doing our due diligence as DOT personnel, and by investing in the help of the WSP, we can and will reduce the number of work site accidents. Thanks to Doug MacDonald, Sgt. Monica Hunter, Governor Gregoire, and Greg Biffle for participating in this effort!
A special thanks to the Main Street maintenance crew – Bob Kofstad, Mike Gartman, John Fry, Ken Schave, Mike Brace, and Marissa Main - they went out of their way to provide all the equipment and participate.
