Beginning in 2006, most State Planning and Research (SPR) projects and some Client-Sponsored and Pooled Fund Projects will be summarized in a Research Note.
The Research Note is a two to four page summary of a research project, with the intent to make research results easily understood by a broad audience.

What is the Format for a Research Note?
The research note includes the following headings:
- Title
- Date (Month/Year)
- Background
- The problem
- What we did
- What we learned
- What the researchers recommend
- Summary of implementation
- Report title and Washington Reporting Document (WA-RD) number (how to get it) and
- Names, titles and contact information for the research manager, researcher's) and technical monitor.
The WSDOT Graphics Office will format the text of the Research Notes into a template. The text should be submitted in a Microsoft Word Document with photos and charts included separately. Research notes are done by Graphics as time allows so if you need it by a certain date, please submit it far enough in advance.
