Southwest Region Construction Update & Travel Advisory

The following Washington State Department of Transportation construction and maintenance projects are expected to have some travel impacts within Southwest Washington. Drivers are encouraged to use caution when traveling in these areas and remember to " give 'em a brake " in construction zones.

Clark County

CONSTRUCTION:

SR 502: Widening from I-5 to Battle Ground

  • Thursday, July 30 to the morning of Friday, July 31: One lane of southbound I-5 will be closed between SR 501 near Ridgefield and SR 502 near Battle Ground from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for material delivery within the median.

  • NOTE: Drivers should expect trucks entering and exiting the highway from the shoulder in the work zone.
  • NOTE: Drivers can expect a temporary lane-shift to remain in effect for several months.
  • NOTE: Both directions of NE 18th Street will alternate through a single-lane between 107th Avenue and 112th Avenue from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., for installation of sidewalk, curb and drainage.
  • NOTE: Pedestrians will need to use the south sidewalk while traveling along 18th Street, from 112th to 107th.


SR 500: BNSF Railroad Crossing

Note: This project is replacing the railroad bridge adjacent to SR 500, over Washougal River. The work involves construction of a temporary bridge on either side of the existing BNSF railroad bridge, over Washougal River.

  • Saturday, July 25 to Saturday, Aug. 1: Drivers on southbound SR 503, between 119th Street and Main Street (SR 502) in Battle Ground, should expect intermittent single-lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 25: Drivers on northbound SR 503, near 179th Street should expect intermittent single-lane closures, from noon to 9 p.m., for loop installation.

SR 501: Clark Public Utilities work

  • Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31: Drivers along SR 501, can expect intermittent, single-lane closures between Frenchman's Bar and Kadow's Marina from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for roadside maintenance and utility pole replacement.

Interstate 5 Bridge Maintenance

  • Friday, July 24 to the morning of Sunday, July 26: Both directions of the I-5 Interstate Bridge will close for up to 20 minutes at a time from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., nightly for bridge maintenance work.

SR 500 Pavement Repair

  • Wednesday, July 29 to the morning of Thursday, July 30: A single-lane of Westbound SR 500 will close between Fourth Plain Boulevard and Northeast112th Avenue/Gher Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for pavement repair work. The Westbound SR 500 off-ramp to Northeast 112th Avenue/Gher Road will also close during work hours.

Mill Plain Boulevard (SR 501) Pavement Repair

  • Monday, July 27 to the morning of Tuesday, July 28: Both directions of Mill Plain Boulevard will reduced to a single-lane at West Fourth Plain Boulevard from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for pavement repair work. Left turns from Eastbound Mill Plain Boulevard to West Fourth Plain Boulevard are prohibited during work hours.
  • Tuesday, July 28 to the morning of Wednesday, July 29: Both directions of Mill Plain Boulevard will reduced to a single-lane at West Fourth Plain Boulevard from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for pavement repair work. Right turns from Westbound Mill Plain Boulevard to West Fourth Plain Boulevard are prohibited during work hours.

SR 14 Pavement Repair

  • Sunday, July 26 to the morning of Monday, July 27: Two lanes of westbound SR 14 at Interstate 205 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for pavement repair work.

    • NOTE: The public is encouraged to take alternate routes during the tunnel closures. WSDOT will pay for tolls across the Hood River Bridge and Bridge of the Gods.

    Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

    Pay attention - driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.

    Leave room between you and the car ahead of you - most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively - be aware of what is happening around you.

    Merge into the proper lane before you reach the work zone.
    Don't use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.

    Avoid work zones by using alternate routes.
