LIVE CAMERAS TO TRACK I-90 SLOPE STABILIZATION WORK AT EASTON HILL

EASTON - WSDOT has set up a live camera showing three different views of the I-90 Midway Curve slope stabilization project work zone (fourteen miles east of the Snoqualmie Pass summit), giving web viewers up-to-the-minute looks of the slope work, as well as I-90 traffic through the temporary work zone bypass in both directions.

Governor Gregoire ordered a reassessment of unstable slopes along I-90 in the Snoqualmie Pass area in late 2005 following rockslides in September and November. The WSDOT chief engineering geologist delivered a report to the governor in January 2006 identifying the three adjacent slopes near milepost 66 (Midway Curve) as high-priority sites for slope stabilization.

The $4.3 million project is about ten times the size of the repairs that followed the rockslides last fall. Crews have finished the temporary work zone bypass for traffic in the area, and slope stabilization work will begin in earnest after the July 4th holiday. WSDOT planned ahead and carefully designed the bypass to have the least possible impact on traffic; the speed limit through the bypass is 65 mph and provides two lanes in each direction.
