The following construction and maintenance activities are scheduled for Feb. 5, through Feb. 12, 2016.

EXPECT: Short term single lane closures. Traffic restricted to one lane. Expect minor short-term congestion.

SR 8, Cloquallam Creek Bridge

DESCRIPTION: Sign repair.
LOCATION: Eastbound SR 8 at milepost 1.

US 12, Porter

DESCRIPTION: Utility crews will install infrastructure.

US 12, Brady

SR 305, Bainbridge Island

DESCRIPTION: Crews will clean the SR 305 Agate Pass Bridge.
LOCATION: SR 305 Agate Pass Bridge.
EXPECT: Bridge will be reduced to one lane during daytime hours for 11 consecutive days beginning Tuesday, Feb. 16. Drivers are advised to expect traffic delays while crews clean and low-pressure-wash the bridge’s steel truss.

  • Each weekday between Tuesday, Feb. 16, and Friday, Feb. 26, drivers will encounter single-lane alternating traffic at the bridge between 8:45 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20-21, the bridge will be reduced to one lane from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be escorted across the bridge during work hours.


SPECIAL EVENTS

SR 305, Bainbridge Island
TIME/DAYS: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28
DESCRIPTION: Chilly Hilly bicycle ride.
LOCATION: Both directions at milepost 5.2 at Hidden Cove Road.
EXPECT: Occasional stoppages in traffic for bicyclists crossing SR 305.

CONSTRUCTION

SR 3 - Belfair Area - Widening and Safety Improvements

TIME/DAYS: 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night Monday through Friday.
DESCRIPTION: This widening project will extend the center turn lane and provide paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3. The improvements are intended to be built in two separate stages.
LOCATION: Both directions of SR 3 from milepost 25.3 to 27.
EXPECT: One-lane alternating traffic with flaggers during weeknight overnight hours listed above. 

WSDOT has lowered the current 35 mph speed limit to 25 miles because of construction. The speed limit has been temporarily reduced between mileposts 25.3 and 26.6, which is the area near Belfair Elementary School and Northeast Clifton Lane. The reduced speed limit will continue until spring 2016.

MAINTENANCE 

US 101, Eldon

I-5 - M Street to Portland Avenue - HOV  & I-5 - Portland Avenue to Port of Tacoma Road - Northbound HOV

DESCRIPTION: These two projects lay the foundation for new HOV lanes on I-5 in Tacoma and northbound into Fife.
LOCATION: Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome between M St. to Portland Ave. from milepost 132.8 to 135.2, and northbound I-5 between East Portland Avenue and Port of Tacoma Road.
EXPECT: 

Lane closures
Southbound Interstate 5 between L Street and M Street will be reduced to a single lane during overnight hours of Wednesday, Feb. 10, and Thursday, Feb. 11. Single, double and triple-lane closures will begin at 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and 12:01 a.m. respectively. Two lanes will reopen by 4 a.m., with all lanes opening by 5 a.m. each following morning.

Drivers can also anticipate additional night single- and double-lane closures on both northbound and southbound I-5 between M Street and the Port of Tacoma Road throughout the week.

Ramp closures 


Tuesday, Feb. 9
• South 38th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 7 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
• East 28th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.

Wednesday, Feb. 10
• East 28th Street/Bay Street on-ramp to northbound State Route 167 will close from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.
• East 28th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.
• Northbound SR 7, southbound I-705, and Pacific Avenue on-ramps to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.

Thursday, Feb. 11
• East 28th Street/Bay Street on-ramp to northbound SR 167 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.
• East 28th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11:59 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.
• South 38th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 7 will close from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.

Friday, Feb. 12
• East 28th Street/Bay Street on-ramp to northbound SR 167 will close from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day.

Friday, Feb. 12, through Monday, Feb. 15

Around-the-clock closure:
Northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to northbound I-705 will close around-the-clock from 11 p.m. Friday, Feb 12, to 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15. (This closure was rescheduled from the weekend of Feb. 5 due to forecasts of rainy weather.)

Friday Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13 night closures:
Northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to southbound SR 7 will close the following hours:
• 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13
• 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.


Long-term ramp closures

  • Northbound SR 7 on-ramp to southbound I-5 through mid-2016.
  • A Street on-ramp to northbound I- 705/I-5 through project completion.

Around-the-clock road closure:

I-5, Madigan Access Improvements

TIME/DAYS: See schedule below.
DESCRIPTION: Crews will build double left-turn lanes from southbound I-5 to Berkeley Street and an additional lane across the Berkeley Street overpass (Freedom Bridge).
LOCATION: Both directions at milepost 122.6.
EXPECT: Between the hours of 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8 through Friday, Feb. 12, drivers can expect one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers on Berkeley Street. Single lane closures for northbound and southbound I-5 are scheduled Monday, Feb. 8 through Friday, Feb. 12 between the hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the construction zone. 
Semi-trucks coming southbound I-5 are prohibited from turning left onto the Berkeley Street overpass. Semi-trucks will need to use alternate routes. All drivers can expect shoulder closures.

SR 410 - Bridge 410/101 (White River Bridge) Repair

TIME/DAYS: No traffic impacts this week.
DESCRIPTION: Crews will repair the State Route 410 White River Bridge between Enumclaw and Buckley.
LOCATION: Both directions at the White River Bridge.
EXPECT: The bridge is currently open to traffic. WSDOT is planning to close the bridge around the clock from the evening of Friday, April 15 to the morning of Saturday, April 23 to repair the structure.

SR 512/SR 7 to I-5 - Congestion Management

TIME/DAYS: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Night closures are scheduled between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. See specifics below.
DESCRIPTION: This project installs a variable message sign and westbound ramp meters at SR 7 and Steele Street.
LOCATION: Both directions of SR 512 between SR 7 and I-5, mileposts 0.65 to 3.2.
EXPECT: Daytime shoulder closures and overnight right single lane closures.

DESCRIPTION: Crews working for the Nisqually Tribe will make a series of improvements including sidewalk, and illumination along SR 510.
LOCATION: Both directions from milepost 10.6 to 9.9.
EXPECT: Construction will continue into summer. Contact Nisqually Tribe for additional information.


Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

  • Pay attention - Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
  • Leave room between you and the car ahead of you - Most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively - be aware of what is happening around you.
  • Merge before you reach the work zone. 
  • Don't use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
