CONSTRUCTION

US 101 Shore Road to Kitchen-Dick Road
Jerry Moore, 360-565-0622
TIME/DAYS: 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
DESCRIPTION: This project widens US 101 from two lanes to four in Clallam County from Shore Road to Kitchen-Dick Road. Crews are clearing, grubbing, constructing roadway and driveways, and installing drainage along with constructing a new bridge over McDonald Creek.
LOCATION: Daytime work is in both directions of US 101, Shore to Kitchen Dick Road, mileposts 265 to 261.
EXPECT: Drivers should expect short-term traffic shifts throughout the project for relocation of utilities along with very short-term closures of 1 to 2 minutes during the day. Only night closures on US 101 will be allowed for long-term closures. Motorists will be directed by flaggers.  During the project there will be times when side roads will be closed for limited durations to allow for reconstruction.

Traffic has been routed onto the new alignment on a temporary road surface in the vicinity of Bar Rd (MP 259) then back onto the existing alignment at milepost 259.48 (in the vicinity of Peninsula Tanks). Existing 101 is closed between those two locations to all but local traffic and will remain closed to thru traffic until the end of summer of 2014.

Although mainline traffic has been shifted to the new alignment, the existing business along the corridor are still easily accessible and open for business.

The contractor has removed the old McDonald Creek Bridge so construction can begin on the new structure. The contractor is also installing mulch and bark on the side slopes of the roadway in preparation for planting.

Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

Pay attention - driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.

Leave room between you and the car ahead of you - most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively - be aware of what is happening around you.

Merge into the proper lane before you reach the work zone.
Don't use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.

If possible, avoid work zones by using alternate routes.
