The Nisqually River bridges on I-5 are cleaned annually during two weekends in March. During the work, lanes of traffic are reduced from three to two so workers can safely clean the northbound and southbound bridges. An average of 118,000 vehicles per day use the Nisqually River Bridges.
Agate Pass Bridge on State Route 305, which links Bainbridge Island to the Kitsap Peninsula, has a deep cleaning every February. The Agate Pass Bridge is used by 22,000 vehicles each day. During the project, single lane alternating traffic is used during daytime hours seven days a week. Pedestrian commuters are escorted across the bridge during working hours.
