Project Facts
- 6,400 recessed pavement markers are being removed and replaced as part of this project.
- Centerline rumble strips have an injury accident and property damage accident reduction rate of 25%.
- All 2-lane corridors in the North Central Region were analyzed based on accident reduction potential with the installation of rumble strips. This section ranked the highest.
Project was complete on June 12th, 2006
This Safety Improvement-Collision Reduction Project is located in King and Chelan Counties on 39 miles of US 2 between Deception Falls, 8 miles west of Stevens Pass, east to the mouth of Tumwater Canyon at Leavenworth.
Why is WSDOT
install centerline rumble strips on this section of US 2?
Centerline rumble strips are a proven method of reducing centerline cross-over accidents by alerting inattentive drivers that they are crossing into oncoming lanes of traffic. Recessed pavement markers also increase centerline visibility in poor light and bad weather.
The End Result
This project increases traveler safety on US 2 from Stevens Pass to Leavenworth.
Project Benefits
• Reduces head-on collisions.
• Reduces loss of control collisions.
• Improves centerline visibility.
• Provides lane delineation that doesn't interfere with snow plowing operations.
What is the project timeline?
Work began May 8th, 2006 and was complete on June12th. The project was scheduled for 22 working days.
