Project Status

Project was complete May 11th, 2007

This safety restoration program project updated faded, damaged and non-current highway signs on I-90, US 2, US 97, US 97A, SR 17, SR 26 SR 28 and SR 150 in the WSDOT North Central Region. 

Why is WSDOT updating signs?
The signs in this project needed to be relocated or replaced due to new federal and state standards.  Included was a new cantilever sign over US 97 at MP 291.46 in Omak.

The End Result
The project improves signs and sign installations in various locations to meet the current standards in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Construction began April 16th, 2007 and was completed within 30 working days, on May 11th.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
Besides the safety benefits of the project itself, safety for the public and the construction workers is paramount while the work is underway.  Both a comprehensive traffic control plan and a work zone safety plan were in place to protect travelers and workers.

Will this project impact tribal resources?
No impacts were identified or encountered during construction.  WSDOT addresses the concerns of tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.

Financial Information
On October 16th, 2006, contract # 7207 was awarded to Construction Ahead, Inc. (DBA: Pavement Surface Control) for $136,679.00, 22% under the engineering estimate.
