This Preservation Project paved 3 miles of SR 285 through the City of Wenatchee, and improved several intersections on nearby highways.
Why did WSDOT
pave SR 285 and make intersection improvements?
The section of SR 285, from the Senator George Sellar Bridge north on Mission and Chelan Streets, Miller Street and Wenatchee Avenue, was due for pavement restoration. A layer of asphalt was ground off, damaged sections repaired, then it was re-paved.
Severe asphalt rutting had developed at several intersections on nearby roadways. Lanes at these intersections were either ground to remove the ruts, or milled out and replaced with new asphalt. Two of the intersections are on US2/97 at Aplets Way and Cotlets Way (Cottage Avenue) in Cashmere. Four are on SR 28 in East Wenatchee at US2/97 (Odabashian Bridge), 9th St. NE, 5th St. NE and Grant Road.
The End Result
The project prevents further deterioration to the existing roadway at the least possible "life cycle" cost.
Project Benefits
- Extends roadway life and provides a new smoother driving surface.
- Improves sidewalks, to benefit those with sight impairments.
- Replaces striping for increased safety and visibility.
- Improves six intersections on US2/97 and SR 28.
