This Roadway Preservation project repaved 3.4 miles on two highways in and near Wenatchee in Chelan County.

Why is WSDOT pave these sections of SR 285 and US2/97 in the Wenatchee area?
North Wenatchee Avenue (SR 285) and US 2/97 (Odabashian Bridge on the north end of Wenatchee) were deteriorated and repaving at the lowest life-cycle cost, preserved the load carrying capacity and upgraded the safety features of the roadways.

The End Result
This project restored the structural integrity of the pavement and replaced the Odabashian Bridge expansion joints on US 2/97, reducing future maintenance.  It also improved safety with more visible striping and precast concrete barrier to prevent crossover accidents.  On SR 285, North Wenatchee Avenue, sidewalk intersection ramps were rebuilt to new American's with Disabilities Act standards, adding "truncated dome" pads to assist sight impaired pedestrians.

Project Benefits

  • Provides a better driving surface by eliminating wheel ruts and bumps from cracked and deteriorated pavement.
  • Included ADA improvements to sidewalk ramps.
  • Repaired bridge expansion joints increasing structure longevity and roadway smoothness.
  • Reduces potential crosssover head-on collisions with new median barrier.
  • What is the project timeline?
Construction began May 23rd and was complete on October 2nd, 2006.
